Rappahannock Cellars Shines at the 2009 Decanter World Wine Awards

HUNTLY, VA, May 13th, 2009 – Rappahannock Cellars 2006 Meritage earns a coveted silver medal, the highest award given to any winery outside the sates of CA/OR/WA in 2009, at the largest and most prestigious wine competition in the world, the Decanter World Wine Awards.

Rappahannock Cellars excelled in the competition, by also earning a bronze medal for it’s 2006 Cabernet Franc. These awards come on the heels of a stellar showing at the Virginia Governor's Cup Competition where they were awarded the “Best White Wine” award for the 2007 Chardonnay; the Tasters Guild International with a gold medal for their Noblesse Viognier (along with 5 other medals including silvers for the '07 Cabernet Franc, '07 Claret, and the '06 Norton dessert wine); and at San Francisco Chronicle International Wine Competition, earning a silver medal for its 2008 Seyval Blanc at this prestigious competition.

The 2009 Decanter World Wine Awards attracted more entries this year than any other wine competition in the world, cementing its position as the world's biggest wine competition. In total 10,285 wines were entered, more than double the amount when the competition launched six years ago. The number of companies submitting wines increased by 23% to 2,240. The Decanter World Wine Awards is the largest and most influential wine competition in the world. The competition is among the most rigorous in the world as evidenced by only three gold medals being awarded to any winery in the United States.

Rappahannock Cellars has been producing award winning wines for 10 years in Virginia; after John Delmare relocated his family’s winery from the Santa Cruz Mountains of California to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
