A wonderful coast-to-coast, family-to-family blend of our family's Cabernet grapes: Sauvignon from California and Franc
from Virginia. Aromatic and fruit-forward in the "New World" style from the California fruit, the mouth-coating tannins
precede a lingering finish with earthiness reminiscent of our "old world" style Virginia Cabernet Franc. Aged 18 Months in 35% New American Oak
Aromas of sassafras root, cedar, and dark fruit. Flavors of anise, cherry and leather.
Lake county, CA
Rappahannock County, VA: elvation 800', clay and shale.
Fruit was destemmed with no crushing and pumped into tank and bins. 2-4 punchdowns or pumpovers a day. Allowed to age on skins for 7-12 days then pressed off. Wine settled in tank then racked to French and American oak barrels, ~40% new barrels.
2014 was a good growing season in Virginia with consistently warm, dry weather throughout the season. The fruit came in with good phenolics and balanced chemistry. Red fruit came in with small berries, due to the lack water, resulting in rich, tannic wines.
