100% Vidal Blanc and made in the traditional ‘late-harvest’ style in which the grapes were left on the vines late into harvest in order to maximize the ripeness and character of the fruit. Aged entirely in stainless steel, the Vidal Blanc is 15% alcohol and 8% residual sugar. Serve Chilled with Blueberry Pie
Aromas of cotton candy, apricot preserve and lemon rind. Flavors of butterscotch, candied almond and marzipan.
Vineyard sits between 900' and 1200' elevation. Southeast aspect, with 10% grade. Rocky soil comprised of shale, limestone and clay.
Vidal was allowed to get very ripe on the vine then brought in and pressed cold. Juice was settled over night then racked to tank for fermentation. Fermentation was arrested part way through to preserve the natural sweetness.
2014 was a good growing season in Virginia with consistently warm, dry weather throughout the season. The fruit came in with good phenolics and balanced chemistry. Red fruit came in with small berries, due to the lack water, resulting in rich, tannic wines. Whites came in with excellent flavor development.
