Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Aromas of truffle, lavender, and anise. Flavors of toffee, cedar, and currant.
Vineyard Notes
Soils are based on weathered green stone, shale, and montmorillonite clay. Green stone is high in nutrients and when broken down creates rich, fertile soils. The shale allows for good water drainage, while the clay provides organic matter. Sites are all south/south west aspect ranging from 800' - 1200' elevation.
Production Notes
Individual lots of Chambourcin, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot were fermented and aged separately. Aged 10 months in Minnesota Oak barrels.
Winemaker Notes
2015 was a good vintage in Virginia with consistently warm, dry weather throughout the growing season. The fruit came in with good phenolics, and balanced chemistry. Whites were picked about 2 weeks earlier than previous years, but with optimal ripeness. Reds came in with excellent skin integrity and concentration
