From the fantastic 2015 harvest, our reserve bottling of Meritage. Aged 14 months in 25% new French oak, the Meritage boasts flavors of rich red fruits and anise, delightfully silk finish and a decadent nose of fig and tobacco. the Meritage is paired perfectly with steak frites.
Aromas of fig, tobacco leaf and plum. Flavors of tea, red fruit, and anise.
Vineyard sits between 900' and 1200' elevation. Southeast aspect, with 10% grade. Rocky soil comprised of shale, limestone and clay.
Whole clusters were destemmed without crushing and fermented in tanks and bins. Punchdowns twice daily until the cap falls. Some lots allowed to age on skins post fermentation for up to 2 weeks. Aged in French oak barrels for 14 months.
2015 was a good vintage in Virginia with consistently warm, dry weather throughout the growing season. The fruit came in with good phenolics, and balanced chemistry. Whites were picked about 2 weeks earlier than previous years, but with optimal ripeness. Reds came in with excellent flavors and sound skin integrity.
