2019 Red Wine Releases!

Dear Wine Fam,

The vineyards have woken up, and mother nature is teasing us with hints of the warm weather to come. With much excitement and anticipation, we entered 2021 with many new releases of our 2019 red wines! 2019 was a fabulous year for the record books, with warm days, cool nights, and limited rainfall. We are excited to present to you our 2019 red wine collection:

2019 Meritage

Our Flagship red wine blend continues to lead our red wine portfolio. We have been making this Bordeaux styled blend since 2001. The wine leads with aromas of strawberry, raspberry reduction, and anise; followed on the palate with blueberry, black cherry, and a hint of green tea leaves.

42% CF, 34% CS, 24% PV

Varietal lots were fermented and aged separately.  Aged 10 months in French and American oak barrels.  26% new oak.

2019 Black Label Meritage Meritage

Our black label wines are made for our club members only, and in the case of our flagship Meritage, this wine is blended from the finest lots of the vintage, and has spent an additional 6 months in elevage. Aromas of Truffle, fig, balsam. Flavors black cherry, with hints of blueberry and herbal undertones.

39% CF, 34% PV, 27% CS

Lots were fermented and aged separately.  Aged 16 months in French and American oak barrels.  33% new oak.

2019 White Label Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc is actually the grandfather of Cabernet Sauvignon and has been the king of Virginia red wines. A sturdy performer, always ripening well and showing its roots from the Loire Valley. Our classic Cabernet Franc begins with aromas of Bing Cherry, Crème Brule wrapped in a gossamer of leather, followed by pomegranate, tart date, and vanilla flavors.

82% CF, 12% CS, 6% PV

Lots were fermented and aged separately.  Aged 10 months in French and American oak barrels.  20% new oak.

2019 Black Label Cabernet Franc

Again our black label program represents the finest lots of Cabernet Franc which spent an additional six months in our finer barrels. You might find aromas of lavender, with apple strudel and hints of wood kiln; follweed by flavors of cherry cola, blackberry, and savory herbs.

81%CF, 19% CS

Lots were fermented and aged separately.  Aged 16 months in French and American oak barrels.  33% new oak.

2019 Petit Verdot

Maybe the future king of Virginia red grapes as proclaimed by the late Steven Spurrier. Spurrier was the organizer of the 1976 “Judgement of Paris” which put North American wines on the world stage. During Spurriers tour and tasting of Virginia wines he held out Petit Verdot as the darling child of the Virginia wine landscape. What followed was a large statewide planting and effort around PV. Our PV, grown at our partner site in the Shenandoah Valley, came into near full production in 2019, paving the way for our being able to add PV to our regular red wine lineup. This wine comes out of the gates with aromas of toasted hazelnut, ripe plum, and a hint of candied ginger.  Followed by steeped cocoa, blackened brisket, and dates.

100% PV

Aged 16 months in French Oak – 38% new barrels.

New World Red

Our New World Red is our “Family” wine made with our family’s Cabernet Sauvignon from the North Coast of California, blended with the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc we grow here in Virginia. It’s a way for us to celebrate our family’s history in wine from both coasts.

Aromas of cranberry, herbal spice, and molasses.  On the palate coconut husk, dark chocolate, toasted cedar..

93%CS, 7% CF

Aged 16 months in American oak- 40% new oak
